An incredible amount of biodiversity can be found in Costa Rica, making it truly a nature lover's paradise. The Low Down on COSTA RICA

Language

Spanish is the official language of Costa Rica, but thanks to its booming tourism market, English is commonly spoken throughout most of the country. Various indigenous languages can also be heard, but English and Spanish are ubiquitous.

Climate

Costa Rica is about as tropical a country as you will find anywhere in the world. Home to about 5% of the world's biodiversity, expect everything from expansive jungles, to towering volcanos, and pristine beaches. The rainy season runs roughly May to November, so plan accordingly.

Currency

The official currency of Costa Rica is called the Colón. As of 2023, $1 USD is equal to 523 Colón. American dollars are commonly accepted throughout the country.

Food

I'll be honest... Costa Rica is not known for its food. The traditional dish galo pinto doesn't exactly set the world on fire. Most restaurants serving foreign food are over priced and pale in comparison to what you'd find elsewhere.

Cost of Living

A trip to Costa Rica is not going to be cheap. Hotel and Airbnb accommodations are among the most expensive in Latin America, particularly in high season. Everyday items are also quite high in cost.

Internet Access

Generally speaking, internet access is above average in Costa Rica. Most hotels and Airbnb's will have more than adequate service to work from. As with any country, rural areas will have less reliable speeds.
