Welcome to Teknomadic!
Greetings, one and all! So happy that you’ve stumbled upon my page. My name is James, and I... am Teknomadic. What on earth is Teknomadic, you may wonder?
Teknomadic is an amalgamation of two words: techno and nomadic.
It is a state of being that I’ve defined as the crossroads of the digital nomad lifestyle, and the underground dance music culture.
I coined this phrase because it brings together two of my greatest passions, travel and techno music.
Who Am I?
I was born and raised in Texas, but I always felt that I was destined to move beyond the corner of the world I was born in.
I moved to San Francisco in 2011, and lived there for nearly 9 years. It was a great run, and I met so many amazing people there, including my wife Alisa. We had so many awesome adventures in California, but we both still felt the call to travel.
In 2019, Alisa and I made a bold decision.
We decided to leave behind our lives in San Francisco and set out on the road, in true digital nomad fashion. We downsized the majority of our things, and put what we wanted to keep in an (overpriced) storage unit.
Days before we moved out of our apartment, we headed to the 2019 edition of Burning Man. Immediately after, we hopped on a plane to Thailand and began officially living the digital nomad lifestyle.
At the onset of our journey, we were very private about our travels.
We rarely posted anything publicly on our personal social media accounts, preferring to share our experiences directly with our families and friends.
I just didn't want to be "that person" that is always posting their travel pics in some sort of vain-glorious plea for attention and approval.
Creating a travel blog was really the last thing on my mind... we simply wanted to explore the world together, as much as we could.
What to Expect?
Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve been deep into underground electronic music culture for 20 years now. It’s no exaggeration to say that I live and breathe house and techno music.
No matter what time of day or night, you can probably find me nodding my head to the rhythm of a four-to-the-floor beat.
I can honestly say that I’ve met the vast majority of my friends on a dance floor somewhere around the world.
I even met my beautiful wife Alisa at an underground party.
There is nothing quite like the vibe and the energy of hundreds, or even thousands, of beautiful souls from around the world moving together in love and harmony on a dance floor.
Combine that with the open air and nature, and what more could you ask for? Who would have thought music without words could bring the world together?
As I’ve traveled around the world as a digital nomad, and met more people, I'm invariably asked some form of the same question: How do you manage to live this lifestyle? How do you become a digital nomad?
Having lived this lifestyle for over four years now, I finally felt confident that I have enough experience to begin helping others to live the life they desire.
That is why I decided to create the Teknomadic website.
What to Expect from Teknomadic
My goal for Teknomadic is for this site to become the cross roads of the digital nomad lifestyle and underground electronic music culture.
On this site you’ll find tons of information on how to live the digital nomad lifestyle. I'll also share personal stories and chronicles of the places I’ve been, the cultures I’ve experienced, the incredible monuments, the wonders of nature, and of course the sickest parties and music I’ve found along the way.
You’ll also find my tips for how to find the best parties and music anywhere you go, and even how to make friends. Whether you’re on the road, planning your next vacation, or simply looking for a dope party or festival, you’ll find something interesting on this site.
This will by no-means be your typical “basic bitch” travel blog. I will share my experiences, with the utmost truth and honesty. There will be no sugarcoating. You will get my uncensored and unfiltered opinions, insights and experiences. I will try my best to focus on the positive aspects of the lifestyle, but I won’t be afraid to talk about some of the less than positive aspects as well.
Above all, I want to use Teknomadic to inspire other people to live a life of adventure. A life of freedom, fun, music, dancing, and love. I want people to live a life, less ordinary. To step away from the mundane, the basic, the sterilized. To step out of their comfort zone and rediscover this great big, blue spinnin’ orb we call the Earth. I want the people who read my website to leave saying “damn, that looks cool. I want to do that too!”.
In the End
Whether you are curious about the digital nomad lifestyle, an experienced partier, or something else entirely, I want to share my lessons and experiences with you.
I want to show you that there is still so much beauty, positivity and fun left in this world, just waiting for you to discover.
And maybe, just maybe, I can help you fulfill your own dream of becoming Teknomadic too.
